When India and the West Indies square off in the second T20I of the five-match series on Monday, Rohit Sharma’s upbeat team will aim to extend their winning streak and dominance over the opposition. The opening game of the five-match series was a resounding victory for the visitors. Rohit’s intelligent captaincy and his strategy of deploying three spinners in the game helped India.

A second victory will only increase India’s self-assurance as they seek to build momentum before the prestigious T20 World Cup later this year. If Rishabh Pant stepped out as an opener in the T20Is against the English side with Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav did so in the opening match against the West Indies, which hints that India is looking at backup opening options.

Suryakumar made an impact quickly by scoring 24 off 16 balls until Akeal Hosein halted his momentum. He ended up being India’s seventh opener in the 20-over format this year. Given that KL Rahul is currently unavailable, it will be fascinating to watch if the team management decides to keep trying new things in the lineup.

Things had slowed down for India after Rohit left scoring 64 runs off 44 deliveries. Dinesh Karthik, a seasoned player, had different plans for the game. Thanks to him, India were able to set a target of 191 runs and emerged to take control over the game from a point when the middle-order struggled to get going.

The 37-year-old excelled in the finisher’s role yet again, scoring an unbeaten 41 runs off 19 balls to aid the side in collecting 36 runs off the final two overs. As for the West Indies, they’ll need to revise their strategies to tackle the Indian lineup, because the Men in Blue have not just got a strong playing combination but a strong bench strength.

Pitch Conditions

The conditions at Warner Park will favour the batters, and they’d be able to score big due to the size of the ground. More boundaries can be expected in the game. The bowlers, both spinners and pacers, will get aid from the new ball as that will provide them with the required movement.

Playing Combinations for WI vs IND

West Indies

The hosts suffered a dismal loss in the first game as they lost by a significant margin and couldn’t do anything about it. For a squad filled with power-hitters, West Indies would look to improve their strategies and tackle India to level the series.

Predicted Playing XI: Shamarh Brooks, Kyle Mayers, Nicholas Pooran (c & wk), Rovman Powell, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Odean Smith, Keemo Paul, Alzarri Joseph, Obed McCoy.

India

Rohit Sharma is in good touch, alongside Dinesh Karthik, who was one of the major reasons behind India’s victory in the first game. The bowlers did their job really well, and it is the batting order that India needs to focus upon. They might get Rishabh Pant to open the game and bring in Deepak Hooda for Shreyas Iyer.

Predicted Playing XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Shreyas Iyer/Deepak Hooda, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravi Bishnoi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Arshdeep Singh.
