The Women in Blue are all set to face the West Indies in the Caribbean islands for a three-match One Day International series followed by a five T20Is. The Twenty20 International series is set to be a dress rehearsal for the impending ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia in early 2020.
But before that crucial ICC ODI Championship points will be up for grabs that will precede the T20I series. Cricket West Indies have announced a strong 14-member squad for the first two ODIs where they have recalled the experienced duo of Chedean Nation and Shemaine Campbelle.
Both of them played their last One-day International against England in June and missed the last series that the against Australia where they were shellacked 0-3. They lost all the three games by a comprehensive margin of 178 runs, 151 runs, and eight wickets.
West Indies also call-up a couple of new faces
The duo will be joined by two new faces- fast bowler Shamnsha Hector and all-rounder Aaliyah Alleyne- both of whom have joined the set-up after impressing the national selectors during the training camp. The West Indies squad features a great amalgamation of youth and experience.
“The selection panel chose a good balance of youth and experience when assembling this squad. We have the return of the experienced Chedean Nation and Shemaine Campbelle, who missed the last series against Australia due to injury. Also the selectors were impressed by the young medium-pace duo of Aaliyah Alleyne and Shawnisha Hector during the training camp, meriting their inclusion in the final 14-member squad,” Ann Browne-John, chief-selector of the Women’s and Girl’s panel Cricket West Indies, said on Saturday (October 26) as quoted by the Times of India.
The One-day Internationals will be played from November 01 at the iconic Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua before the teams move their base to Guyana where the T20I series will take place. The ODI series will be crucial for both sides, particularly for the hosts as they find themselves languishing at the seventh spot of the ICC Women’s Championship standings, following just five wins and as many as 12 defeats after 18 games.
