The West Indies Women (WI) and England Women (ENG) will lock horns in their respective first match of the eighth edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on a double-header Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Boland Park in Paarl. Both teams are placed in Group B with the likes of Ireland and Asian giants India and Pakistan. The second match of the tournament is scheduled to begin at 18.30 PM (IST) and 15.00 PM (local time).
Both West Indies and England have won the marquee tournament once in the past with the Caribbean side lifting the trophy in the year 2016 and the English team winning the inaugural competition staged on home soil way back in 2009. Out of the seven editions, the other five have been won by the dominant Australians.
West Indies and England would be looking to begin their respective campaigns on a positive note by clinching a win in opening fixture. Speaking of the last edition of the T20 World Cup held in 2020, the Caribbean team failed to make the final four as they finished the league stage with just three points out of the four games played. On the other hand, England’s semi-final encounter with India got abandoned due to rain, and the Asian side qualified for the final by virtue of finishing higher on the points table.
