Kedar Jadhav’s role in the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) line-up has come under the scanner in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Moreover, his unbeaten knock of 7 runs off 12 deliveries in the game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has raised a lot of eyebrows. The fans are already demanding to axe him from the playing XI following a string of low scores.

He has played in all the six matches for CSK so far and has mustered only 58 runs at an average of 19.33. The strike-rate of 98.30 is even worse for any batsman in the shortest format of the game. This indicates that the 35-year-old is clearly struggling to put bat to ball often. MS Dhoni is not using him with the ball as well and this has put a question mark on his role in the team.

Since, the painstaking knock in a tricky chase on Wednesday, the fans are also interested in knowing Kedar Jadhav’s IPL price. CSK was involved in a bidding war with Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the mega auction ahead of the 2018 season.

The Men in Yellow, however, ended up winning it and snapped up Jadhav for a whopping amount of Rs 7.8 crore. His base price was Rs 2 crore and is being paid almost four times of it now. He has been retained for two seasons since then as well.

Kedar Jadhav’s performance in IPL 2017 and 2018

However, things were different then as Kedar Jadhav was an integral part of the Indian team and used to bat well lower down the order. Even in the opening game of the IPL 2018, his six in the last over had helped CSK win the match. But the batsman got injured and was ruled out of the entire season.

He didn’t do well even last season after batting in as many as 12 innings. Kedar Jadhav scored only 162 runs with a half-century to his name at an average of 18. Moreover, his strike-rate of 95.85 make the statistics look even poor. But with CSK qualifying for the final last year, not many criticised the cricketer. This time around, Jadhav is under a a lot of pressure with his poor run continuing even as CSK is also struggling.

Also, it is clear that he is not being able to justify his Rs 7.8 crore price tag. So far, in 21 matches he has played for CSK, the Maharashtra batsman has scored only 244 runs after facing 250 deliveries. His every run has cost CSK a whopping amount and it remains to be seen if the franchise retains him for the next season.
