We cannot fight against nature, isn’t it? We witnessed riveting cricketing action during the first Test between England and India, but in the end, rain had the last laugh, as the entire final day’s play was washed out.

And, both England and India will enter the second Test at Lord’s with the series still level at 0-0. India will surely be the more confident side going into the second Test match. India’s pacers produced an excellent performance with the ball in the first Test, and if not for a certain Joe Root, England would have been in doldrums. Jasprit Bumrah was absolutely outstanding with the red cherry in hand in the first rubber, and if he can continue in the same vein in the next Test, then the England batsmen will have a lot of headaches for sure.

For England, their batting is a cause for concern. Rory Burns could not cross 20 runs in both innings of the first Test, Dom Sibley got off to starts but could not convert them into big ones, and Dan Lawrence too did not live up to the expectations. England has added Moeen Ali to their squad, and there are talks that Haseeb Hameed might get a look in as well.

For India too, the experienced trio of Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Ajinkya Rahane came a cropper in the first Test. Batting maestro Virat Kohli was dismissed for a first-ball duck, their No.3 Cheteshwar Pujara scored just 4 runs in the first innings, and Ajinkya Rahane committed suicide on the cricket pitch by running himself out for just 5 runs.

The setting for the 2nd Test match will be the iconic Lord’s cricket ground, a ground replete with history. So, who will draw first blood, as the caravan moves to the ‘Home of Cricket’?

Playing Combinations for ENG vs IND

England

England are expected to make a few changes to their side. For starters, Stuart Broad is injured and is a doubtful starter for the second Test, and Mark Wood is likely to replace him. Moeen Ali has been added to the squad, and he might replace Dan Lawrence in the playing XI.

Also, Haseeb Hameed might get a look in as well, in place of Zak Crawley. So, England is expected to do a lot of tinkering to their side for the second rubber.

Predicted XI

Rory Burns, Dom Sibley, Haseeb Hameed/Zak Crawley, Joe Root (C), Jos Buttler (WK), Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, Ollie Robinson, Sam Curran, Mark Wood, James Anderson

India

For India, Shardul Thakur is doubtful for the second Test as he is suffering from a hamstring injury. And, Ravichandran Ashwin might make a return to the side. KL Rahul produced a scintillating performance in the first Test and should retain his place for the second rubber too.

Veteran pacer Ishant Sharma might make a return to the side if he is deemed fit, and might replace Mohammed Siraj. The rest of the lineup should remain the same.

Predicted XI

KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin/Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma/Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah
