After the thrilling Test in Bristol, India Women and England Women are set to take part in a three-match ODI series. The opening game is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 27 at the County Ground itself.

Following the spirited show in whites, can Mithali Raj and Co impress in the shorter format? As far as records are concerned, Heather Knight and Co seem the firm favourites. Going by head-to-head records, out of 29 games on English soil, India have won only five.

Their last meeting in England came in the 2017 World Cup final at the Lord’s when the India Women suffered a horrendous collapse. However, with the likes of Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana in the ranks, the Women in Blue look a formidable unit.

In the ICC rankings for ODI teams, India are ranked fourth while England are placed third. The team, which will lose the opening game, will find themselves in a must-win scenario for the rest of the matches.

Playing combination for ENGW vs INDW

England Women

In Danielle Wyatt’s absence, it’s likely for one of Amy Jones and Lauren Winfield to open the batting with Tammy Beaumont. Winfield was decent in the Test and she’s likely to feature in the eleven as well.

Heather Knight has been a fulcrum of their batting and he’s coming after scoring 95 in the Test. She is also more than handy with the ball. Anya Shrubsole has done well against India over the years and a lot would depend on her.

Sophie Ecclestone bowled well in the second innings of the Test and she’d be looking for a similar show. The onus will also be on the likes of Sciver, Brunt, and others.

Predicted XI

Amy Jones (wk), Tammy Beaumont, Heather Knight (C), Lauren Winfield, Natalie Sciver, Fran Wilson, Sophia Dunkley, Anya Shrubsole, Katherine Brunt, Sophie Ecclestone, Kate Cross/Sarah Glenn

Bench: Kate Cross/Sarah Glenn, Mady Villiers, Emily Arlott, Freya Davies, Natasha Farrant

India Women

Shafali Verma has been a revelation for India in the last few months. After showing her class in T20Is, she won the POTM award in the one-off Test. It won’t spring a surprise if she goes on to make her ODI debut as well.

Smriti Mandhana had a decent Test match and a lot would depend on her as well. Mithali Raj and Punam Raut played decent in the home series against South Africa and the onus will be on them.

Sneh Rana, after the all-round show in the Test, should get a chance in the 50-overs format as well. Poonam Yadav is going through a bit of a rough patch and she’d want to make amends.

Predicted XI

Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Mithali Raj (C), Punam Raut, Harmanpreet Kaur, Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Shikha Pandey, Taniya Bhatia (wk), Jhulan Goswami, Poonam Yadav/Pooja Vastrakar

Bench: Poonam Yadav/Pooja Vastrakar, Priya Punia, Jemimah Rodrigues, Indrani Roy, Arundhati Reddy, Ekta Bisht, Radha Yadav
