Heading into the second T20I against England, Virat Kohli was under pressure, both as a leader and as a batsman. His side had been thrashed by 8 wickets in the first T20I, and Kohli had also scored a five-ball duck with the bat. He was trolled for his poor performance, with even the Uttarakhand police taking a dig at Kohli for his failure in the first rubber.

But then, the master returned with a bang in the 2nd T20I and led from the front both with the bat and on the field. The skipper scored a scintillating 73* off 49 balls and steered his side to a thumping 7 wicket victory. His trademark cover drive and his whip over mid-wicket were there for all to see, and the England bowlers were left dazed by Kohli’s brilliance.

Ishan Kishan dazzled on his debut as well. He is only 22 years old and was making his debut in front of a massive crowd at the largest cricket stadium in the world. But Kishan did not let that affect him and scored a scintillating 32-ball 56 to arrive at the international stage in a sizzling fashion.

On the other hand, the England side would be on the back foot going into the third rubber. All their batsmen got starts in the second T20I, but none of them could convert it into a big score. On the bowling front, apart from Sam Curran and Jofra Archer, all the England bowlers were thrashed to all parts of the ground. And, the Eoin Morgan-led side needs to regroup quickly heading into the third encounter.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Narendra Modi stadium will be a good one for batting. The ball has come onto the bat nicely in the two matches thus far, and we can expect another track where the batsmen can make it count. The side that has chased has won both the games. Expect the trend to continue.

Playing Combinations for India vs England

India

The one question regarding India’s playing combination heading into the third rubber is whether Rohit Sharma will take the field. The ‘Hitman’ was rested for the first two T20Is by the Indian side. Also, with KL Rahul failing in both the matches, Rohit might open the batting alongside Ishan Kishan. The rest of the lineup is likely to remain the same.

Probable Playing XI: Rohit Sharma/KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli (C), Rishabh Pant (WK), Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal

England

The England bowlers failed to step up in the second T20I. The Indian batsmen stamped their authority over the visitors, and Eoin Morgan and his men were rendered clueless. England might make one change, and get back Mark Wood in place of Tom Curran.

Probable Playing XI: Jason Roy, Jos Buttler (WK), Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow, Eoin Morgan (C), Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Jofra Archer, Tom Curran/Mark Wood, Adil Rashid
