New Zealand absolutely decimated the Bangladesh outfit in the first ODI at Dunedin. There was nothing that went the visitors’ way as they were steamrolled by 8 wickets by the Black Caps. The Bangladesh batting line-up came a cropper as Trent Boult’s swing and guile proved to be their undoing.

In fact, not a single Bangladesh batsman could even cross the 30-run mark, as the visitors were bowled out for a paltry score of 131. In reply, the Kiwis cantered home with ease. Martin Guptill scored a whirlwind 38 off just 19 deliveries, and Henry Nicholls scored a sedate 49 as the hosts drew first blood in the three-match ODI series.

The Bangladesh side has a lot of work to do heading into the second ODI on 23rd March 2021, as a loss in the second rubber would mean that they would lose the ODI series. To give their bowlers any chance, the batting will have to click if the Tigers lose the toss again. Either way, the top six of Bangladesh will have to give their best to help the team put up a fight.

New Zealand, on the other hand, would themselves want to be pushed a bit by the opposition so that their inexperienced players like Will Young and Devon Conway are tested. Their bowlers, however, will be keen on hunting the Tigers as early as possible like they did in the series opener.

Pitch and Conditions

The bowlers will get a lot of purchase at the Hagley Oval. The ball will nip around early on, and the batsmen will have to be a little cautious to emerge successful on this surface.

Playing Combinations for NZ vs BAN

Veteran batsman Ross Taylor is not yet fully fit to take the field for the second ODI. So, the Kiwis will stick to the same side in the second rubber as well.

Bangladesh

Even though the Bangladesh side fell short in every department of the game, it is unlikely that they will indulge in rampant changes after just one failure.

Predicted Playing XI: Tamim Iqbal (C), Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim (WK) Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah, Mehidy Hasan, Mahedi Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman
