West Indies got off to a thunderous start in the five-match T20I series against South Africa. The team, captained by Kieron Pollard, came out trumps by eight wickets and took an important 1-0 lead in the series.

The Caribbean team chased down 161 runs with as many as 30 deliveries to spare. Fabian Allen’s tight bowling and Evin Lewis’s power-hitting scripted victory for the hosts. Their batters came out firing on all cylinders and smashed 15 sixes in the run-chase.

The second game of the series is set to be played on Sunday, June 27 at the National Cricket Stadium, St George’s, Grenada. The Proteas, on the other hand, couldn’t bear the brunt of the Caribbean batters.

Temba Bavuma and Co would find themselves in a must-win scenario for the last three games if they lose the next match. The pitch was a belter on Saturday and it isn’t expected to change much in characteristics.

On Saturday, the hosts included Andre Fletcher instead of Lendl Simmons and the decision paid dividends. The Spiceman scored a 19-ball 30 and took his team off to a flier.

Lewis was at his very best as he smashed four fours and as many as seven sixes on his way to a blistering 35-ball 71. Chris Gayle and Andre Russell also showed their bit of power-hitting.

In the bowling department, Allen was outstanding as he picked up the wickets of Temba Bavuma and Reeza Hendricks. Veteran Dwayne Bravo also chipped in with a couple of scalps. Obed McCoy was pretty economical as well.

Predicted XI

Andre Fletcher, Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Kieron Pollard (C), Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Jason Holder, Fabian Allen, Sheldon Cottrell, Kevin Sinclair

Bench: Lendl Simmons, Hayden Walsh Jr, Akeal Hosein, Oshane Thomas, Obed McCoy, Shimron Hetmyer, Fidel Edwards

South Africa

Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock returned to the T20I setup and didn’t flatter to deceive. Hendricks started with two fours and a six before Allen got rid of him.

Rassie van der Dussen played a handy knock last time around, staying unbeaten, though his knock couldn’t suffice to a victory. Temba Bavuma looked a little out of sorts before getting out to Allen.

In the bowling department, Lungi Ngidi leaked 46 runs and he might make way for Andile Phehlukwayo. Kagiso Rabada would also want to make amends after going for 10.70 last time. The onus will also be on Nortje and Shamsi.

Predicted XI

Quinton de Kock (wk), Reeza Hendricks, Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), David Miller, George Linde/Bjorn Fortuin, Andile Phehlukwayo/Lungi Ngidi, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Anrich Nortje

Bench: Janneman Malan, George Linde/Bjorn Fortuin, Lizaad Williams, Kyle Verreynne, Lungi Ngidi/Andile Phehlukwayo, Sisanda Magala, Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder
