Sri Lanka will enter the second T20I against the West Indies with their backs against the wall, as they need to compulsorily win the second rubber to stay alive in the three-match series. In the first T20I, the Sri Lankan batting lineup came a cropper. As many as 8 of their willow wielders could not even cross the 20-run mark as the Islanders huffed and puffed their way to a paltry total of 131/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

The West Indian batsmen went hammer and tongs after the Sri Lankan bowling attack. The hosts chased down the target with 4 wickets and 41 balls to spare. After the West Indian openers provided a blistering start, putting on a 52-run partnership off just 3.2 overs, the likes of Kieron Pollard and Jason Holder scored 38 and 29* respectively to help their side canter home with ease.

Only Wanindu Hasaranga made a mark with the ball for the Lankans. The leg spinner picked up 3 wickets in his 4 overs, and gave away just 12 runs as well. Sri Lanka should certainly put up a better performance with both bat and ball if they have to stay afloat in the series.

Pitch and conditions

The pitch at the Coolidge Cricket Ground is relatively new, with just one T20I played there. But, based on what happened in the previous game, it looks like a pitch where the batsmen will be rewarded for their shots. But the key is, they will have to spend time out in the middle. And, once the willow wielders get set, they can make hay on this surface.

Playing Combinations for WI vs SL

West Indies

The West Indies side is likely to stick to the same XI that took the field in the previous match. Both the batting as well as the bowling units fired in unison for the West Indies in the first T20I, and so they are unlikely to tinker with their playing combinations.

Predicted XI: Lendl Simmons, Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Kieron Pollard (c), Jason Holder, Fabian Allen, Dwayne Bravo, Kevin Sinclair, Obed McCoy, Fidel Edwards

Sri Lanka

Even though Sri Lanka was thrashed in the first T20I, they are not likely to chop and change after just one dismal performance. They will mostly field the same XI as well.

Predicted XI: Niroshan Dickwella(wk), Danushka Gunathilaka, Pathum Nissanka, Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews(c), Thisara Perera, Wanindu Hasaranga, Ashen Bandara, Akila Dananjaya, Dushmantha Chameera, Nuwan Pradeep
