Mohammad Rizwan’s scintillating 82* off 61 deliveries helped Pakistan avoid a defeat against Zimbabwe in the first T20I between the two sides. The Pakistan wicketkeeper batted through the entire 20 overs of the innings and helped his side post a respectable total of 149/7 on the board.

In fact, if not for Rizwan’s stunning display with the willow, the Babar Azam led side would not even have crossed the 100-run mark. After Rizwan, the next highest run-scorer for the Pakistan side was Danish Aziz, who scored 15. Also, 6 Pakistan willow wielders failed to even score in double digits as well.

The Zimbabwe side came close, but in the end, fell short of the target by 11 runs. Even though the likes of Craig Ervine and Luke Jongwe scored 34 and 30* respectively, the Sean Williams-led side could not overhaul the target. Leg spinner Usman Qadir was the pick of the bowlers for the Pakistan side. In the 4 overs that he bowled, Qadir scalped 3 wickets and gave away just 29 runs.

Both the teams will have just a day to regroup, as the 2nd T20I is slated to take place on 23rd April 2021. And, Zimbabwe needs to compulsorily post a win in the 2nd T20I in order to stay alive in this series.

The pitch at Harare will be a good one for batting. As Mohammad Rizwan demonstrated, the batsmen will be rewarded if they bide their time on this surface. Winning the toss and batting first is the best option.
