When Mominul Haque failed to equal AB de Villiers’ World Record: Mominul Haque, the Bangladeshi cricketer, made headlines when he hit 11 consecutive test fifties within a span of just one and half year from October 2013 to May 2015. However, in one-off test against India last month, the left-handed batsman, failed to touch AB de Villiers’s world record tally of 12 test fifties in a row. He was dismissed on 30 by Harbhajan Singh and fell short of 20 runs to score his 12th successive test half century. As of now, AB’s world record is still unbroken and hopefully it will stay so in the days ahead.

In recent times, there are so many talented cricketers but consistency is something that is missing in them. In fact, barring de Villiers and Sangakkara, the two legends in contemporary era, there are not too many batsmen who can perform well on a regular basis at the test match level. Amidst the gloomy picture, Mominul Haque is a force to reckon with.

What’s more intriguing is the fact that the young Bangladeshi batsman has far better test average than Mr. 360°. The South African ODI skipper has played 98 tests and averages around 52 in his test career, while Haque has an impressive average of 59 in test matches. The newbie, who played just 15 tests until now, might have failed to equal AB de Villiers’s world record, but the 23-year-old is one of the most consistent test batsmen from Bangladesh these days.

What Statistics speak about Mominul Haque:

– The Cox’s Bazar-born cricketer played his debut test against Sri-Lanka in 2013.
– Haque hit 11 consecutive 50s in 15 tests that he played so far.
– He scored around 1400 test runs with 4 centuries and 9 fifties.
– The left-hander scored 500 plus runs with 3 half-centuries while representing Bangladesh in 26 ODIs.

The technically-sound batsman is now looking forward to cement his place as a regular member of Bangladesh in both the formats of the game. He certainly wants to change the tag of being called a test specialist only, in future. Mominul Haque considers AB de Viliers as the Raja (King) of cricket. The youngster is heavily impressed with the astonishing performance of AB de Villiers across all formats of the game over the last couple of years.
