Having endured a horrendous campaign so far in the T20 World Cup 2021, India’s chances of qualifying for the semi-finals are on knife’s edge. The Men in Blue suffered massive defeats against Pakistan and New Zealand in their first two fixtures. Although they are virtually out of the semi-final race, the Virat Kohli-led side still has an outside chance.
In case, they win their remaining games comprehensively and Afghanistan and New Zealand lose at least one of their first fixtures, the inaugural-season champions might go through only if they have a better run rate. As New Zealand met Scotland in their latest fixture, millions of Indian fans would be praying for the Scottish side to pull off a miracle and upset the Kiwis.
Matthew Cross is aware of India’s qualification chances
Scotland wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Cross is aware of the same and that’s evident during one of his comments behind the stumps. In order to motivate leg-spinner Chris Greaves, Cross reminded him that the whole India is cheering for his success. “Whole of India is behind you here, Greavo,” said cross. His comments were caught in the stump microphone and subsequently went viral on social media.

Speaking of the New Zealand vs Scotland fixture, the coin landed in Scotland’s fixture and they unsurprisingly elected to bowl at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. With skipper Daryl Mitchell, Kane Williamson and Devon Conway getting out cheaply, the Scottish side got off to a strong start. However, veteran opener Martin Guptill joined forces with Glenn Phillips and the duo steadied the ship.
With Scotland being an associate team and not having several prominent names, the Kiwis would back themselves to cross the line and inch closer to a semi-final berth. As far as India are concerned, they have three more games in the group stages and they need to win all of them handsomely.
The Virat Kohli-led side will meet Afghanistan in their latest fixture at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Although the Indian team is studded with T20 stalwarts, they don’t have momentum in their favour. Moreover, Afghanistan has played some fine brand of cricket, winning two of their first three games. Hence, India can’t afford to put a foot wrong against Mohammad Nabi’s men.
