With Hardik Pandya not bowling a single over in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, many questions were raised over his selection in the Indian team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Many fans and experts reckoned the all-rounder would be a liability in case he doesn’t bowl. Also, his one-dimensional contribution could also hamper the team combination.

Interestingly, BCCI chief selector Chetan Sharma, ahead of the UAE leg of IPL 2021, had claimed that Pandya would bowl his full quota of overs in the global event. However, the possibility of this happening is pretty low as of now. After all, Hardik didn’t roll his arm over during India’s warm-up matches against England and Australia.

With nothing being at stakes in these games, Hardik was expected to bowl to get in the groove. However, that didn’t happen and fans aren’t amused. In fact, Virat Kohli chipped in with a couple of overs against Australia but Pandya didn’t come in the attack even once. This somewhat indicates Pandya isn’t entirely fit and the same has raised further questions over his selection.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, India’s stand-in captain for the clash against Australia, admitted Hardik won’t be able to bowl for some more time. He also said Team India is keen to have a sixth bowling option for the showpiece event.

It’ll be a while before Hardik Pandya bowls: Rohit Sharma

“We want to make sure that we get the 6th bowling option, some options in the batting order as well, we’ll try all those things today. Hardik is coming along pretty well, but it’ll be a while before he will start to bowl. He hasn’t started bowling, but he should be ready by the start of the tournament. We have quality in the main bowlers, but you need an option for a 6th bowler,” Rohit Sharma said.

Meanwhile, India will kick-start their T20 World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan. The high-voltage encounter takes place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 24. Besides the Pandya puzzle, the Men in Blue don’t have many loopholes in the team and hence, they are expected to thrive in the competition.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterati reacted to Hardik Pandya not bowling against Australia:-
