Veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is expected to miss the upcoming ODI series against the home team West Indies. To note, Bangladesh have lost the Test series against the West Indies and will now play a three-match T20I series against the Men in Maroon, starting on July 2. Following the T20I series, the visitors will take on the home team in a three-match ODI series scheduled to be played in Guyana on July 10, 13, and 16.

Shakib will be a part of the T20I squad but could miss the ODI series as it is not a part of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Super League. The star all-rounder is expected to be replaced by the left-arm spinner Taijul Islam. The information was shared by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan on Wednesday (June 29).

Shakib Al Hasan has not spoken with the board officially: BCB president Nazmul Hasan

”Shakib said before going (to West Indies) said that he won’t play Test and will play one day and T20. After sitting with me he said that he will play the Test and later he was made the captain. I heard that he told Jalal Bhai (BCB’s cricket operation chairman) that he might not play in the ODI series and that he had said so earlier,” Nazmul told reporters on Wednesday.

”Because he hasn’t spoken with the board officially probably I will understand it after talking to them by today or tomorrow. But you can take that as unofficial considering he had informed (us about his decision) earlier. If seniors want a break from games that are not part of ICC events (ICC Test Championship and ODI Super League) that that is good. We can see the new cricketers and whether we have players in their place or not,” he added.

The visitors received a beating from the home side in the Test series recently, but they will want to bounce back in the white-ball games and start it by winning the T20I series against the Men in Maroon starting soon.
