West Indies have named an unchanged squad for the third and final Test against England, which gets underway on March 24 at the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada. As the first two games ended in draws, the winner of this clash would walk away with the series win. Cricket West Indies (WI) selectors seem pretty pleased with their side’s performance so far as they decided to retain the squad.
All-rounder Kyle Mayers and uncapped pacer Anderson Phillip remain on the 13-man list, having warmed the benches in the Barbados Test. Notably, West Indies have a job in hand as England haven’t won a Test series in the Caribbean Islands since 2004. Hence, the home team would like to keep the record intact. Notably, West Indies haven’t recorded a single victory in their last four Test series.
Needless to mention, they would like to end the drought in Grenada. “We really appreciated the fighting spirit from the batting department,” said chief selector Desmond Haynes. “We decided to stick with the same squad and want to see them continue to give a big effort in the third Test match.”
We were very impressed with the captain Kraigg Brathwaite: Desmond Haynes
Haynes also went onto laud skipper Kraigg Brathwaite for scoring a magnificent century, and following it up with a fighting fifty in the previous contest. “We were very impressed with the captain Kraigg Brathwaite showing the fight in the both innings and the way he led from the front with the bat,” said Haynes further.
Meanwhile, England will also have a point to prove as they have had a hard time in Test matches lately. In fact, their previous assignment in the longest format saw them suffering a 0-4 thrashing in the Ashes earlier this year. Hence, Joe Root’s men have all the reasons to bring their A-game out in the third Test.
West Indies squad: Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), Jermaine Blackwood, Nkrumah Bonner, Shamarh Brooks, John Campbell, Joshua Da Silva, Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Kyle Mayers, Veerasammy Permaul, Anderson Phillip, Kemar Roach, Jayden Seales
