The first T20I between India and West Indies had a lot of interesting moments, and one of the talking points from the game was the shot played by Dinesh Karthik in the final over. India posted a daunting score of 190/6 on the board after being put into bat first by the West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran, thanks to a terrific finish from the veteran batter Karthik, who scored an unbeaten 19-ball 41.

Skipper Rohit Sharma started the assault with a 44-ball 64 at the top of the order. However, India then had some hiccups in the middle overs as the top six were removed inside the 16th over. Karthik, who came into bat at the 16th over, did not have much time to have some fighters, and on a tough wicket, the right-hander managed to hit four fours and two sixes in his quickfire innings.

The 52-run partnership with Ravi Ashwin provided the impetus for a big score to be posted, and the total went from 138-6 to 190-6 in just four overs time. West Indies strangled in their run chase with wickets falling continuously, which meant that the hosts ended up short by 68 runs in the end.

During Karthik’s blistering innings of 41*, he played all around the wicket with a lot of 360-degree shots and in the fourth delivery of the final over, he switched into a left-hander to play a scoop over the short third man fielder. However, the ball hit the top edge of Karthik’s willow and went above the short fine leg fielder for a bizarre boundary. The 37-year-old was named the Player of the Match award for his brilliant knock.

Meanwhile, India have now taken a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series, and the second T20I is set to get underway at Warner Park on August 1. West Indies will be looking to come up with a better performance after being dominated in all three fields in the first game.
