Test cricket was certainly at its best during the first Test match between West Indies and Pakistan Sabina Park in Jamaica. Momentum rode on a rollercoaster as both teams were neck-to-neck in the major part of the contest. After four days of exciting battle between the bat and the ball, the home team eventually walked away with a one-wicket triumph and took a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

Meanwhile, the thrilling Test match also witnessed a hilarious gaffe from the third umpire. The official mistakenly showcased his music playlist on the big screen while making a decision. It all happened during the 77th over of West Indies’ first innings. The on-field umpires went upstairs to refer the run-out of Caribbean skipper Kraigg Brathwaite.

It was indeed an important decision as Brathwaite was on 97. Hence, everyone was waiting for the verdict to be displayed on the screen. However, they were left amazed when they saw a music playlist. Brathwaite was eventually adjudged out but the gaffe hogged a lot of limelight. The video of the incident is also got viral on social media.

West Indies register a thrilling win

Speaking of the proceedings of the game, Pakistan, after being put on to bat first, posted 217 on a tricky surface. While Fawad Alam (56) top-scored for the visitors, Jayden Seales and Jason Holder took three wickets apiece. In reply, West Indies put up a slightly better batting effort and posted 253, earning a lead of 36 runs.

With the pitch constantly deteriorating with time, Pakistan could only manage 203 in their second innings. The home team looked firmly on command as they needed mere 168 runs for victory. However, Pakistan bowlers breathed fire with the red cherry and kept their side in the hunt. The equation eventually came down to the home team needing 17 runs with just one wicket in hand.

Thanks to some sensible batting from speedster Kemar Roach, the hosts eventually crossed the line and registered a stunning win. The second and final Test match takes place at the same venue and will get underway on August 20. While Kraigg Brathwaite’s men would like to clinch the series, Pakistan aim to settle the scores.
