The pamphlet row in New Delhi’s politics is taking a dangerous and dramatic turn with every passing moment. Former India batsman Gautam Gambhir, who is now a BJP candidate from East Delhi, was accused by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of distributing ‘derogatory’ pamphlets against its candidate Atishi. Atishi had labelled the allegations against Gambhir in a press-conference where she also broke down.

Since then, the entire country has stood divided. While one half is severely criticising Gambhir, thinking that he has done it while the other half has stood firmly behind the under-fire batting legend. Gambhir, known for his outspoken and bold nature, has himself also reacted vehemently to the accusations. Gambhir first denied the allegations before asking the AAP politicians to prove it or face dire consequences.

The World Cup winning star has also sent a notice to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Atishi, demanding their apology for the whole fiasco. In the notice, Gambhir asked the trio to withdraw their allegations against him and tender an unconditional apology. Before sending the notice, Gambhir had also said that he would withdraw from the Lok Sabha contest if the charge was proved against him.

Gambhir has now taken the fight to another level by sensationally claiming that he would hang himself in public if the charges laid against him are proven. The cricketer-turned-politician took to Twitter to throw a challenge at AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, saying that in case the charges are proved he would hang himself in public otherwise the latter should quit politics.

“Challenger Number 3 to @ArvindKejriwal and @aap. If he can prove that I have anything to do with this pamphlet filth, then I will hang myself in public. Otherwise @ArvindKejriwal should quit politics. Accepted?,” wrote Gautam Gambhir.

Support from cricketing fraternity

Meanwhile, several players have come out publicly to support Gautam Gambhir during the tough times. Starting from his former India teammates like Harbhajan Singh, VVS Laxman to youngsters like Nitish Rana, quite a number of big names have stood by Gambhir’s side.
