MS Dhoni was handed the Chennai Super Kings captaincy back from Ravindra Jadeja due to the team’s underwhelming performances in the ongoing season that saw them register just two wins from eight matches. The move seemed to have paid off after the defending champions registered a 13-run win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Dhoni himself has dropped a hint that he might play for CSK even in the next season but at the same time, also said that he could be seen in a different role. A lot of speculations are being made over the veteran’s future ever since he retired from international cricket back in August 2020.

When cricketer-turned-commentator Danny Morrison asked MS Dhoni whether the latter will still be seen in the Yellow jersey, he said that he is not sure whether it will be a playing jersey and only time will tell if he is playing in IPL 2023. “You’ll definitely see me in the yellow jersey, whether it is this one, or some other one, you never know,” replied Captain Cool.

CSK return to winning ways under MS Dhoni

While he did hit a four during his short stay at the crease where he scored eight runs from seven deliveries, the legendary skipper was dismissed on the second ball of the final over by T Natarajan. Nonetheless, CSK had nothing to worry about as a blistering 99 from hometown hero Ruturaj Gaikwad and an unbeaten 55-ball 85 from Devon Conway powered the title-holders to 202/2.

SRH in reply did mean business with a 58-run opening stand between Abhishek Sharma and skipper Kane Williamson but, once the former was dismissed, the Orange Army lost wickets at regular intervals. Their margin of defeat could have been a humiliating one had it not been for wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran’s unbeaten 33-ball 64 that eventually helped them finish at 189/6.

Pooran looked in great touch, but with no support from the other end combined with a steep asking rate, there was too much responsibility on his shoulders in the death overs.
