Team Windies is all set to play in the United States again this year. The recent reports suggest that the Caribbean side is set to host two Asian countries for a tri-series in the month of August this year. This comes as a big news considering the fact that the tournament could well be the first one for these two Asian sides in the United States. Reportedly, West Indies will be hosting Bangladesh and Pakistan in August for the tri-series.

All the matches of the series will be played in Florida. Florida has a good cricketing base and the viewership in the USA has been on the rise for the game of cricket. With the Asian communities staying in large numbers in the US, spreading the wings of cricket in the country by letting the Asian teams tour the venue is certainly a great idea. The last Asian team to tour US for a bilateral series was the Indian team.

The MS Dhoni-led side has played a couple of T20Is in the series. Unfortunately for the visitors, the series was lost. The Indian team had only played two T20Is during their tour a couple of seasons ago. While one of the two matches was a washout, the other game had seen two whirlwind knocks.

India’s KL Rahul had hit a brilliant ton in the match – his maiden T20I century. Also, Windies cricketer Evin Lewis had struck a century in the game. Windies had managed to beat India in the high scoring thriller as Rahul’s ton in the run chase went in vain. Back then, the match had seen a good turnout with the audiences flocking in the stadium in Florida in large numbers.

Big crowds expected in the US

Hence, when Pakistan and Bangladesh tour US for a tri-series later this year, the expectations would be to see sell out games at the venue. For the Windies side, the venue in the US has been a happy hunting ground. Talking about the venue, every year, it hosts a handful of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) matches. Hence, the fans are certainly not deserted from the game of cricket.
