India, the current No.1 Test team, will get their first taste of the World Test championship when they face the Windies in a 2-match Test series starting on Thursday. India has been unbeaten in their ongoing tour of Caribbean Islands winning the T20I series by a 3-0 margin and ODI series with a 2-0 lead. They have completely dominated the Windies in the longer format for more than 15 years. However, the recent success of Windies at home does give them a bit of hope through their pace attack.

All the key stats and numbers ahead of India’s first assignment in the World Test championship:

7 – India won each of their previous seven Test series against the Windies. Last time India lost a Test series to Windies was in 2002 which was hosted by the West Indies.

21 – Windies have not defeated India even once in their last 21 Test matches. India won 12 of their previous 21 Tests against the West Indies team while another nine ended in a draw. Windies’ last Test win against India came during the 2002 home Test series.

26 – If Virat Kohli captains India to a 2-0 series win, he will be the most successful Test captain for India with 28 victories. Kohli, thus, will go past MS Dhoni’s 27 Test wins and will also find a place in the top seven successful skippers in Test history.

45.73 – Virat Kohli has a Test batting average of 45.73 against the Windies; the lowest for him against any opponent. Kohli amassed 686 runs from 12 Tests against the Caribbean team with two hundreds and three fifties.

Kohli’s Test average of 36.33 in the Windies is also the lowest for him in any country where he played more than one innings. Kohli scored 327 runs including a 200 across nine innings in the Caribbean Islands.

60Ravichandran Ashwin has claimed 60 wickets against the Windies in only 11 Test matches. He averages 21.85 against them in this format and has claimed four 5-fers. Ashwin stood as the player of the match in two out of four series he played against the West Indians.

Ashwin amassed 552 runs at an average of 50.18 against the Windies in 12 innings. He scored all his four centuries in Test cricket against the team from the Caribbean.

93 – Jason Holder is seven wickets away from completing 100 Test wickets. He has picked up 93 wickets in 37 matches with help of five five-fers. Holder will become the 4th Windies player with 1500+ runs and 100+ wickets in Test cricket when he picks seven more wickets.

99 – Number of wins as captain for Virat Kohli in International cricket. Kohli will become the 12th player and only the 3rd from India with 100 International wins as captain if India wins one more game.

192Ravindra Jadeja has bagged 192 wickets thus far in his 41-match Test career. If Jadeja picks up eight wickets in this 2-match series, he will become the 2nd fastest Indian and the fastest left-arm bowler in Test history to complete 200 wickets.

226 – Between the last day of the Sydney Test in January and the first day of the Antigua Test, India would have spent 226 days without featuring in Test cricket. This is the joint-longest gap between two days of Test cricket for India since the start of 2001. India spent 226 consecutive days in 2013 as well without any Test matches starting from the last week of March to the first week of November.

1905 – KL Rahul needs 95 more runs to complete 2000 runs in Test cricket. He is also 186 runs away from becoming the 10th Indian to amass 2000 Test runs as an opener.
