The opening match at the Providence Stadium in Guyana turned out to be a frustrating one for India and the Windies. Rain delayed play to start with only to reappear at frequent intervals. After 13 overs, the game was called off. The Men in Blue whitewashed the Caribbean side in the T20I series and would’ve wished for another excellent start, but it wasn’t possible as the rain had the last laugh.

Only 13 overs of play was possible after which the curtains came down on the contest. The second match is scheduled to be played on Saturday, August 11 at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain in Trinidad. The forecast for the game isn’t overly great and another washout will make the final ODI the deciding game. Meanwhile, the Windies keep looking for their maiden win in their home campaign.

Pitch and Conditions

33 out of the 62 matches have been won by the team batting first at the venue. The stadium will be hosting an ODI after a gap of more than two years. In fact, since July 2013, the venue has been a witness to only one completed ODI. The heavens may open up severely from 2 PM to 4 PM and there could be interruptions. Bearing in mind the same, it would be safe to chase.

Team Combinations

Windies

The Caribbean team may go with the same line-up. Chris Gayle would want to delete the memories of the last game after the painful 31-ball four. The positive aspect for the hosts was Evin Lewis’ return to form. He was cautious to start with but took on Khaleel Ahmed. In soggy conditions, the Windies bowlers will be looking to make some quick inroads into the opposition batting line-up.

Probable XI

Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Shai Hope (wk), Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Roston Chase, Jason Holder (C), Carlos Brathwaite, Fabian Allen, Sheldon Cottrell, Kemar Roach.

India

There’s no need for India to make any changes. Khaleel may get another chance after giving away 27 in his three overs in the last match. Navdeep Saini is warming the bench and Khaleel can’t afford many poor shows. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammad Shami kept Gayle quiet, hitting the right channels. Kuldeep Yadav also looked good in his two overs, picking up the prized scalp of the Universe Boss.

Probable XI

Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli (C), Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Khaleel Ahmed
