Team India notched up a brilliant win against Pakistan in their first match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. The build-up to the game was huge much like every other India v Pakistan encounter. The Indian side lived up to the expectations infront of the packed house at Birmingham, Edgbaston. The rain did play a bit of spoilsport for a brief while but the fans ended up having a good game on the cards.

As the things unfolded on the day, the Virat Kohli-led side inflicted a crushing defeat on the men in green. They absolutely outplayed the opposition in all the three formats of the game. After having been asked to bat first, the Indian openers – Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan – posted a 136-run stand for the opening wicket on the day. Both batsmen reached their respective fifties.

After Dhawan’s dismissal, it was skipper Kohli’s turn to score runs at will. Rohit was unlucky to be run out on 91 but Kohli paraded along. Yuvraj Singh came and smacked a whirlwind quick fifty to out India in a position of a big finish. After his departure, Kohli took the role of the aggressor. Hardik Pandya, who was promoted ahead of MS Dhoni, hammered 3 sixes in the final over to help India finish on a high.

Skipper Kohli remained unbeaten on 81 as India finished with 319/3. In the bowling department, Umesh Yadav was too hot to handle for the Pakistani batsmen. He picked up 3 wickets and was supported by dual strikes each by Hardik and Ravindra Jadeja. Pakistan bundled out for a mere 164 to give India a 124-run win.

As soon as they won the game, the wishes came in flooding for the Indian team. The cricket fraternity and the celebrities expressed their happiness over the win and congratulated the team.
