After getting whitewashed in the 3-match ODI series, the England Women need to win all the remaining four matches against Australia to regain the Women’s Ashes title. The two sides will face off in the One-off Test match starting on Thursday in Taunton. This is only the 3rd Women’s Test match since the start of 2015 and all being played as part of Women’s Ashes – during 2015 season in England and during 2017/18 in Australia.

The two sides are coming from big wins in the warm-up fixtures against 2nd string sides. Australia Women beat the England Women’s Academy where Beth Mooney and Ellyse Perry struck centuries. In the game between England Women and Australia A, the home team openers Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones struck tons on an opening day. Natalie Sciver also scored a century in the second innings.

Match Details:

The one-off Test match in the Women’s Ashes between England Women and Australia Women will be hosted by the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton.

The match starts at 11:00 AM local time (10:00 AM GMT) (3:30 PM IST). The game will be live on Sony Six in India. Live streaming available on Sony Liv.

Pitch Condition/Report:

The track at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton is similar to what is found in the sub-continent. The spinners dominate the proceedings during the red ball matches at this venue. The left-arm spinners usually take the bulk of wickets during the County matches.

Team News:

Rachael Haynes picked up an injury during the warm-up game but is expected to be fit for the game. Nicola Carey featured in the T20 game for Australia A on the eve of the Test and might not play.

Power Picks:

During the last Women’s Ashes Test, Ellyse Perry created havoc with the bat scoring a record unbeaten 213. She also picked up three wickets with the ball. During the recent ODI series, Perry claimed 7-wicket haul and had a total of 11 wickets from three games. She also scored a match-winning fifty.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

The County Ground in Taunton usually helps slow bowlers and spinners. This meant making all-rounders like Ellyse Perry, Natalie Sciver, Jess Jonassen and Katherine Brunt as captain will be ideally crucial. Sophie Ecclestone, Tammy Beaumont, Megan Schutt, Meg Lanning and Alyssa Healy can be made vice-captain.

Suggested Playing XI No.1 for Fantasy Cricket:

Keeper – Amy Jones, Alyssa Healy

Batters – Beth Mooney, Tammy Beaumont, Heather Knight

All-Rounders – Natalie Sciver (VC), Ellyse Perry (C), Jess Jonassen

Bowlers – Delissa Kimmince, Katherine Brunt, Sophie Ecclestone

Keeper – Alyssa Healy

Batters – Meg Lanning, Tammy Beaumont, Nicole Bolton

All-Rounders –Ellyse Perry, Georgia Elwiss, Jess Jonassen (C)

Expert Advice:

Meg Lanning didn’t have best times going with her during the 3-match ODI series where she scored only one fifty. She returned with low scores during the warm-up fixture as well. Given her cost, she can be ignored for picking costly all-rounders and bowlers.

Probable Winners:

The Taunton track will be a result attaining pitch and it might come down to how the spinners in both sides will perform.
