The Australian women’s team was in for displeasure after one of its team members found herself locked inside a toilet at Lincoln Green in New Zealand on Sunday, February 27. Nicola Carey, who is as busy as her colleagues ahead of the ICC Women’s World Cup kicking off on Friday, March 4, found herself stuck in a cubicle for no less than 20 minutes during Australia’s warm-up game against the West Indies at the picturesque venue.
Carey later explained how she got stuck in the toilet while the people concerned also revealed how they got the cricketer out from the tough situation. In the end it was all smiles, as Nicola Carey stated that everyone was laughing at her.
“I got to the ground and needed to use the facilities, so I took myself to the toilet, locked the door, and couldn’t get out,” Carey, 28, said in a video posted by Cricket Australia.

Andrea Nelson, the boss of the Cricket World Cup, spoke on the matter later telling New Zealand’s Stuff website, “It was jammed, so I had to get Mills [the team manager] to round up some people to unlock the door and in the process she handed me a butter knife.”
People laughed at Carey every time someone was inside the toilet cubicle
However, the tool didn’t prove to be useful and Carey said people laughed at her every time they figured out who was inside the toilet cubicle where she was caged. The cricketer was eventually freed after the master key was found and she joined her team-mates on the ground ahead of the game against the Caribbeans.
The Australians, who are looking for their record seventh title, beat the West Indies by 90 runs in the game. They scored 259 for 7 in 50 overs after the West Indians won the toss and elected to field and then restricted them to 169 for 9 in 50 overs. As for Carey, she scored five runs and conceded 19 runs in seven overs.
On Tuesday, March 1, however, the Australian women had a disappointing day as they were hammered by hosts New Zealand by nine wickets at Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln. Carey made 21 runs off 18 deliveries in the game but proved too expensive with the ball as she gave 58 runs in just 6.1 overs. Australia will kick off their campaign at the World Cup against England on Saturday, March 5, at Seddon Park, Hamilton.
