The 12th edition of the ICC Women’s World Cup is set to commence on March 4 with the hosts New Zealand facing West Indies in the opening encounter. It is an 8-team affair this time around with five sides qualifying based on the rankings while the other three teams made it through a qualifying tournament. However, due to COVID, the competition had to be called off and West Indies, Bangladesh and Pakistan qualified based on the rankings.
Women’s cricket has gained a lot of attention over the last five years and this edition of the 50-over World Cup is certainly going to be bigger and better. Even the International Cricket Council (ICC) is not leaving any stone unturned in its preparations and has announced hashtags for every team ahead of the tournament.
The official Twitter handle of the ICC tweeted about the same on Thursday (March 3). Each team has a separate hashtag while for the World Cup, one has to use #CWC22.
Here’s the tweet:

India to commence their campaign on March 6
Australia are the outright favourites having won the World Cup as many as six times while England have emerged victorious on four occasions. New Zealand have also won the mega event once and they will be looking to lay their hands on the trophy this time around. As for India, the team has reached the final twice but didn’t manage to cross the final hurdle.
They came closest to winning the trophy in 2017 but crumbled under pressure with England prevailing in a thriller. This time around, the Mithali Raj-led side will be looking to make amends and come up with a brilliant show in New Zealand. This is also the last time that legendary cricketers Mithali and Jhulan Goswami will be representing India in a World event.
Team India will commence its campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on March 6 and it will be interesting to see if they manage to continue their winning run.
