India Women were pretty ordinary coming into the World Twenty20 having been outplayed in the Tri-series at home and failed to win the Asia Cup for the first time ever. However, their new batting strategy helped them defeat New Zealand in the opening game. A comfortable win in the second game over Pakistan strengthened their semi-finals hopes. With Australia defeating New Zealand on Tuesday, the Aussies became the first team to make it to the final four.

India will join them from Group B if they win one of their last two games; against Ireland and Australia. Ireland hasn’t really threatened in the games against Australia and Pakistan but has the potential to produce an upset. India, at the moment, doesn’t have any major selection troubles but might prefer Anuja Patil ahead of Deepti Sharma who went wicketless in the two games so far. Anuja also adds value to the Indian team with her ability to score quickly.

Power Picks:

Young players Jemimah Rodrigues and Radha Yadav have the ability to change the game. Jemimah has the perfect intent for the T20 format while Yadav’s bowling could make things tough for the batters. Another youngster featuring in this game, Gaby Lewis has exceptional ability and has already played quite a few International games at the age of 17.

Best Playing XI:

Taniya Bhatia, Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Gaby Lewis, Clare Shillington, Jemimah Rodrigues, Kim Garth, Ciara Metcalfe, Lucy OReilly, Poonam Yadav, Radha Yadav.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

Harmanpreet Kaur’s batting position and the chances of her having a bowl deserve a multiplier option along with Poonam Yadav, who is quite consistent at taking wickets. Mandhana and Jemimah can also be considered for one of the two multipliers. Ciara Metcalfe, Kim Garth and Lucy OReilly will be among the players who can justify the captain/vice-captain positions.

Expert Advice:

Mithali Raj’s position has turned out to be an unpredictable element in this tournament as she was slated to bat at No.7 in the first game and opened the innings in the second. Against Ireland, India might not need the experience of Mithali and instead, grant more game time to Jemimah and Hemalatha.

Probable Winners:

India could continue their winning streak over Ireland and seal their berth in the semi-finals.
