Worcestershire’s middle order batsman Ross Whiteley entered the record books during the game against Yorkshire recently in the NatWest T20 Blast. During the run chase, Whiteley hit six sixes in an over off the bowling over Karl Carver. Chasing a mammoth 234 runs for the win, the Worcestershire team desperately needed a herculean knock in the middle overs to give them a sniff in the run chase.

Well, Ross Whiteley arguably provided the most ideal impetus to them. Batting in the 16th over against Karver, Whiteley clobbered 6 maximums in a row. He hit the first four balls of the over for four consecutive sixes. A very nervous Carver ended up bowling a wide on the fifth delivery. He then followed it up with two more length deliveries that was dispatched into the stands by Ross Whiteley to complete his effort of six sixes in an over.

The over yielded 37 runs for the Worcs in the game. Talking about the figures, Carver returned with 0/47 in the 2 overs that he bowled. Whiteley, en route his six sixes, reached his fifty too. However, he could not add much more to his tally after that. He perished in the 18th over after scoring 65 off just 26 deliveries with a couple of fours and 8 sixes to his name.

His effort was not enough as Worcestershire could only manage to score 196/7 in their 20 overs. They fell short by 37 runs. Earlier in the game, Yorkshire played a trump card by promoting pace bowler David Willey to number 3 slot in the batting order. Willey plundered 118 runs off just 55 balls with 9 fours and 8 sixes to take Yorkshire’s total to a mammoth 233/6 in 20 overs.

Game of Excitement

None of the Worcestershire bowlers were spared. John Hastings was taken away for 58 runs in the three overs that he bowled and got two wickets. Later, the Worcs tried a similar experiment by opening with Hastings who smashed 24 off just 11 balls with a couple of fours and as many sixes before getting dismissed. All in all, it was a game full of experiments and excitement!
