World Cup 2015: It’s time for Virat Kohli to come good against Australia in the semi finals: There could have been no better match to justify the huge expectations of World Cup semi-finals than this Australia vs India match at the SCG. The Aussies have always been referred as champions, but for a change they are the challengers this time around as they play the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 in their own backyards. And India, Australia’s opponent in the semi final clash is the Champion side in not only the contest but for the tournament, as it is about their title defense.
While India has made a superb journey so far winning all the group matches with little sweat and the quarter-final with ease as well. But, Australia will test them and test them for lot more than just cricket; the mind games, the temperament and stiff fight. The Indian team has been in Australia for more than four months now and it was not until the first game in the world cup 2015 that they enjoyed their first win on the soil.
So a win less test and ODI tri-series will be playing in the background for the world champs but they have been superlative enough in the tournament to be confident of beating the Australian team.
They have done all that they have with the bat without huge contributions from batting main stray Virat Kohli. India were tagged to over rely on Kohli to make them the number of runs they imagine to; but the story in the world cup 2015 has been more about the 6 classified batsmen that they have picking an opportunity or two each, making it their game and winning it for India.
As India head into the semi-finals (the big match) the big match player and a runs hungry Virat will be backing himself to come good and the Australians know it as well, if he bat’s the way he does; the home team will find it tough to beat the champs. His run in the World Cup 2015 can look mediocre with his last 7 matches score card reading 107 against Pakistan, 46, 33*,33,44,38 and 3. But it is not something to worry about for the Indian captain and the team management as Virat is known to sort his stuff out himself.
Though it has not been a fluent world cup for him with the bat, but his skipper seems to back Kohli to come good in the epic clash at the SCG. Dhoni said, “I don’t think he has batted badly. When he has got an opportunity he has scored runs, “It’s not that he has scored a century in every time he has gone out to bat. But everybody relating his performance with the test series and expecting a hundred in every innings from him.”
The captain looks certain and assured about his deputies abilities and determination to come good. “I don’t think there has been any poor shot selection. He is a dominant batsman who likes playing his shots when he goes in to bat, “It’s quite difficult but at the same time I feel it is important to keep focusing on the process. It’s just around the corner and big players always score in big games.” The skipper said as the team would expect their most certain batsman to do the job on the big night.
