England and Australia are currently fighting it out in the second semi-final of the 2019 World Cup at Edgbaston. Aaron Finch won the toss and opted to bat first only for his team to botch the advantage. While the skipper himself bagged the golden duck, David Warner and Peter Handscomb were also sent back early to leave Australia reeling at 14/3. Alex Carey was promoted then to calm the proceedings but Jofra Archer welcomed him with a brutal bouncer.

The left-hander has been exceptional for the defending champions in the mega event and has bailed the team out of the trouble on numerous occasions already. Carey looked good as well hitting a couple of deliveries of the middle of the bat. But the last ball of the eighth over hit him hard on the chin. Archer bowled a pacy bouncer which Carey tried to evade with a not so great method.

He didn’t anticipate the bouncer coming was already on the front foot and in an attempt to avoid it, just took his eyes off the ball. But it didn’t work for Alex Carey and the ball shot up to hit him on the chin and the pace on it blew his helmet away as well. Thankfully, the batsman caught his helmet which might have stumbled on the wickets.

Physio attends the batsman

The ball was hit so hard that blood came out of his chin and Australia‘s physio had to come out to attend Alex Carey. Fortunately, the cricketer was safe and also possibly cleared the concussion test which is mandatorily done now after being hit off the bouncer. To control the blood, the physio applied the bandaid but the incident must have surely sent the shockwaves across Australia.

As far as Alex Carey is concerned, he is back batting and is looking fine at the moment. But the bouncer will play on his mind now and Jofra Archer has already bowled a couple more to him. The batsman, however, was ready on both the occasions and successfully swayed away from it.
