Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir took to Twitter to congratulate Team India on its big victory against the Australian side on Sunday, June 9. India secured a convincing 36-run win over Australia at The Oval in London in a classic heavyweight clash of the two titans of World Cricket. The end result might showcase a different story but India dominated over Australia throughout the game, something that the 36-run triumph won’t be able to portray.

Barring a few overs in between, during almost the entire run chase Australia never looked as though they would complete the chase at ease. David Warner, their top batsman, looked out of touch and in a rare circumstance, he scored really slow. He looked completely uncomfortable in his 84-ball stay and in fact his miscommunication with skipper Aaron Finch led to the latter’s unfair run-out. Finally, he was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal at 56.

India’s main man in ICC tournaments, Shikhar Dhawan smashed a fine 117 off 109 to put India on top despite a slow start in terms of run rate. His class act was coupled with captain Virat Kohli’s 82-run knock and an enjoyable 27-ball 48 by Hardik Pandya. These knocks guided India to post a big total of 352/5 and earned many cheers from the fans and supporters present on the crowd at huge capacity.

What could’ve been a record World Cup chase, turned into a sloppy ride for the Australian team that struggled to accelerate the innings despite Steve Smith’s 70-ball 69. While Smith consolidated the innings, there was almost no one left to carry on from where he left after his dismissal. The Aussies kept losing wickets and the asking rate kept rising. The only one who came close to finishing the chase was the wicketkeeper Alex Carey who hit a 25-ball half-century. Bhuvneshwar Kumar uprooted Adam Zampa on the last ball of the match to finish with 3/50 and Jasprit Bumrah bagged 3/61.

Gambhir makes a pun in his tweet

All in all, India were majorly impressive and as of now, they’re looking like the strongest team of the lot. In this light, the cricketer turned politician Gautam Gambhir posted a tweet which congratulated the Indian Team on its big victory. The veteran cricketer also pulled off a pun saying “it was pretty much Oval & Out for the Aussies” since India thrashed the Australian team at the Oval in London. Gambhir also pointed out in his tweet that his wife did not like the pun at all.
