Vijay Shankar, this guy seems like a person next door. But, the talent he has is in abundance. The all-rounder given a chance can do wonders as we have seen in his outings to Australia and New Zealand. A small towner playing cricket on the rugged roads of Tirunelveli in his childhood punched a big ticket for ICC World Cup 2019. His story of struggles to stardom can be an inspiration to the youngsters.

The debate on no. 4 spot in the Indian team has been making rounds in social media. But, the way Vijay Shankar booked the spot is definitely worth the wait. Things were not going in favour of the all-rounder Hardik Pandya as he was booked in a controversy due to his misogynistic comments on a TV show. The all-rounder was supposed to travel to New Zealand. But, he was nudged in controversy, the board slapped a series ban which merely made Vijay Shankar’s career.

After the chief selector MSK Prasad naming Vijay in the 15-man squad for the World Cup, the all-rounder donning a black tee with Sunrisers Hyderabad logo on it, thanked the selectors in a video. “It feels really good to be a part of Indian Cricket team. This is my first call-up for the World Cup. It’s like a dream come true and very special for me. Now, I’m just looking forward to giving my best in the big tournament.”

MSK while addressing the media said that they have selected Vijay mainly keeping in focus the way he can be utilized. He is a good batting all-rounder. Though his focus is on batting he does a good job with the ball as well. Considering the fact that Vijay can be utilized in all three dimensions — batting, bowling and fielding — the selectors found the Tamil Nadu cricketer to be more reliable and resourceful than Amabati Rayudu.

The team would be leaving in mid-may as the quadrennial tournament commences on May 30th.

Here is the video, where Vijay Shankar thanked the selectors for choosing for World Cup.
