The much-awaited World Cup is now just a fortnight away. Fans across the world are getting restless to see the top ten teams of the world fighting out against each other in order to gain supremacy over the world. The twelfth edition of the tournament will get underway on May 30 with hosts England taking on South Africa in a mouth-watering tournament-opener. The tournament will last for 45 days and will come to an end on July 14 with the final at the iconic Lord’s.

With the tournament now edging closer, the ICC is also making sure to make the fans get in the groove for the competition. And in such an attempt, the Cricket World Cup’s official Twitter handle asked the fans about the best opening pair for the upcoming World Cup. Unsurprisingly, there was a huge reaction as fans from across the globe revealed their picks. The upcoming competition will see quite a number of formidable opening partnerships.

Starting from the established openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan for India to the exciting ones like England’s Jason Roy-Jonny Bairstow, Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman-Imam-ul-Haq, Australia’s Aaron Finch-Usman Khawaja, the World Cup will see quite a number of solid opening partners. Perhaps this was the reason why the World Cup page asked the fans for their opinions.

Rohit-Dhawan dominate:

Not very surprisingly, India stars Rohit and Dhawan were the pick of the lot by the fans during the poll. Rohit and Dhawan will go down in history as one of the best opening pairs of all time. Since opening together way back in 2011, the two have amassed a staggering 4586 runs at an average of 44.96. They have also scored 15 century and 13 fifty partnerships.

Their record in ICC tournaments is even more impressive. In the 2013 Champions Trophy, they had helped India win the title before powering the nation to the semifinal and the final of the 2015 World Cup and 2017 Champions Trophy respectively. India will need their star openers at their devastating best if they are eyeing the World Cup title.

Here are few of the hundreds of reactions from the fans where they picked Rohit and Dhawan over the rest.
