Bangladesh is having the time of their life in the ICC World Cup 2019, as they registered their second win of the tournament by beating West Indies in a superlative performance in Taunton. Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman and Liton Das starred along with Mohammad Saifuddin to bring the tigers much joy and took the team to the fifth spot on the points table.

West Indies had batted first and thanks to 96 from Shai Hope, 70 from Evin Lewis and a quick fifty from Shimron Hetmyer put on 321 runs on the board against a very good Bangladeshi bowling attack. Though Saifuddin was expensive in taking his three wickets, Mustafizur made up for him, by picking 3/59 and Shakib chipped in with two wickets, that of dangerous Lewis and Pooran.

Liton Das has a dream World Cup debut

When it was time to chase down the big target, openers Soumya Sarkar and Tamim Iqbal had prepared well for the short ball barrage that the West Indies fast bowlers dished out at them and they scored freely. Tamim was run out for 48, Sarkar fell for 29 and Mushfiqur fell for 1 run, bringing out Liton Das to the pitch to partner Shakib, who is in a purple patch with the bat at the moment.

The duo added 189* runs for the fourth wicket with Shakib making 124*. His second century in the tournament completed 6,000 runs in ODIs and went to the top of the most runs list in World Cup 2019. Meanwhile, Liton, who was playing his first ICC mega event, felt comfortable at home and hit a brilliant 94* in 69 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes to his name.

ICC took this opportunity to have some fun at the expense of Liton Das and trolled him by posting an image of him with the caption, “Liton Das ends the game not out ????”

The reason for this expression was the stumping decision that went against him in the Asia Cup. Bangladesh fans had insisted that he was not out there while the umpires thought otherwise. Since it has been a common expression on social media that Liton is still batting not out from that innings.
