25 matches later, we are slowly seeing the stronger and more consistent teams float to the top of the table. The home team is one of them. England has won four out of five matches, having lost only to Pakistan. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, got lucky thanks to the rain and has 4 points to its credit. They played 3 matches out of which they won only one – and that was against Afghanistan. Here is all you need to read for both the teams before picking your Fantain XI.
The home team has put together a very resilient squad to bring the World Cup home. While everything is working according to plan so far, injuries have been a concern. Roy was ruled out leaving the squad to bank on Vince as the back-up. The team that played against Afghanistan should be retained for the match against Sri Lanka. Bringing Hales back to the team is not a decision that will be taken easily.
Jonny Bairstow, James Vince, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan (C), Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler (wk), Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood
There is a lot of worry in camp Sri Lanka. One injury did hamper them as well. Nuwan Pradeep suffered a dislocation and a cut in his small finger on his bowling arm, during practice. He was given treatment at the hospital, while the doctors reset his dislocated finger and the cut was closed with stitches. The good news is that Pradeep is set to join the team to play against England.
Sri Lanka’s middle order is the biggest issue of them all.
Lasith Malinga, Angelo Mathews, Isuru Udana, Thisara Perera, Lahiru Thirimanne, Nuwan Pradeep, Dhananjaya de Silva, Milinda Siriwardana/N Pradeep, Dimuth Karunaratne (C), Kusal Perera (wk), Kusal Mendis
Bairstow, Root and Morgan: Even without Roy, the top order of the English team is quite formidable. Two out of three always click in every match.
Thisara Perera: Sri Lanka needs one player to stand his ground and fight against England and Perera could be that warrior.
Kusal Perera and Jos Buttler: the two wicketkeepers have an excellent track record and are assets to your Fantain Fantasy Lineup.
Fantain Fantasy XI:
Batsmen: Root, Morgan, Bairstow, Karunaratne
Bowlers: Archer, Woakes, Udana
All-Rounders: Stokes, Ali, Perera
WK: K Perera
You can pick between Moeen Ali and Buttler. Mark Wood has also played very well and deserves to be on the lineup. In that case, another English player needs to be let go.
This is our Fantain Fantasy XI but you’re the real expert.
