Pakistan can say that they were unlucky in the 2019 World Cup. They did whatever they could, but their luck has completely deserted them. The team won 4 out of their first eight matches, while one of their games (vs Sri Lanka) got washed out. Firstly, they can argue that they lost a point against Sri Lanka. Then some one-sided defeats haunted them, keeping their net-run-rate well below the other teams. However, Ravi Ashwin has come up with hilarious advice for Sarfaraz Ahmed‘s men with which they can easily go through.

Pakistan needed England to lose against either of India or New Zealand. However, the hosts convincingly defeated both the teams, to qualify for the semis. If they defeat Bangladesh, then their points will be equal to that of New Zealand. However, the Kiwis are well ahead in terms of NRR. This means that the Men in Green has to defeat the Tigers by 311 runs if they score 350, by 316 runs if they score 400 and by 321 runs if they score 450.

Clearly, this qualification scenario is practically impossible. The biggest winning margin in international ODI cricket till date is 290 runs. Also, if Bangladesh’s form is taken into consideration, it is impossible to easily defeat them. Their batting, led by Shakib-Al-Hasan is the only team to chase a score over 250 in this World Cup. This speaks volumes about their form. Nothing seems to be going right for Pakistan at the moment.

Ashwin has a plan

However, the Indian off-spinner Ravi Ashwin has a hilarious plan with which Pakistan can make it to the semi-finals. While he was first surprised with the margin they had to win, but then jokingly went on to say that Pakistan can mankad 10 batsmen at the non-striker’s end after scoring 350 batting first. Ashwin had come under the severe scanner for mankading Jos Buttler in the IPL and the fans are still behind him for his actions. The cricketer, however, is unscathed and still backs himself for what he did.

“Pakistan to have to win this game by a margin of 311 runs in order to qualify??#ICCCricketWorldCup #PakvsBan. Yes make about 350 and 10 runs outs at the bowlers end,” he wrote in a series of tweets.

Pakistan can argue that they were ahead of New Zealand in terms of both bowling and batting. Though they weren’t consistent, their team showed that they can outclass any opponent on their day. Pakistan is often associated with the tag of ‘unpredictables’. While this is enough to prove that they can’t be taken lightly, it often turns out to be a bane for themselves, just as it did in this World Cup.
