England lived a dream by lifting the World Cup on Sunday. After their dreams getting shattered thrice in the World Cup tournaments, 1979, 1987 and 1992, young England side laid hands on the coveted Cup. Well, it has not been an easy task for the Brits to live their dream. The last seven weeks have been a topsy-turvy phase in their road to final. In the league stage, they were clueless as they lost to underdogs Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Australia. But, the last minute sparkles helped them barge into the last 4.

To catapult from league stage, they had to squeeze in into the top four and had to wait till the last league clash. Coming into the semis, there was a bigger task ahead for them as they encountered reigning champions Australia.  Sent the Aussies packing in the semis with the help of Chris Woakes and Jason Roy who came up as a surprise package for the hosts.

Their plight with the handling pressure doesn’t end there, the final against New Zealand was all together a new ball game for the hosts. The last gasp victory was one of the greatest chases in the history of the sport. As someone once said, “To stand on top of the world as a hero, it takes relentless efforts and abundance perseverance.” Spectators could witness a tremendously relentless England as Ben Stokes kept his breath behind the match. By the end of the match, the all-rounder was exhaustion was palpable as he led the team to Super Over by hammering unbeaten 84.

It was not all over there, the sigh of relief for England came only after drawing the Super Over as well. There was a bit of harsh rule applied to New Zealand, but England definitely deserves the prestigious cup for breaking a lot of sweat.

Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid stay away from the wildest of celebrations

As soon as the team was handed the trophy and photo-ops were done, the players reached for the champagne bottles and started soaking each other with the beverage. However, two England players were watching the wildness of such celebrations from sidelines and they were Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali. Rashid played all the 11 games in the tournament, while Moeen played five matches.

Given that the two are devout followers of Islam and as per the laws of their religion, consumption of alcohol is forbidden. This is the reason why they awkwardly ran off the podium when Jonny Bairstow took out the champagne to spray out. This is nothing new as they did this before also when England defeated South Africa by 3-1 in a Test series in the year 2017. Also when England won against Aussies in Ashes in the year 2015.
