MS Dhoni last registered an ODI century in the India colours back in January 2017. Since then, the wicket-keeper batsmen had quite some turbulent times. While he fared well in that year, 2018 was an absolute disaster for him. His averages stooped to an all-time low and many believed that his end was near. But 2019 brought a sense of fresh air with him winning the ‘Man of the Series’ award in Australia.

He carried his good form forward and had a terrific IPL as well. The wicketkeeper-batsman was the leading run-scorer for his team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the tournament. Now, his World Cup preparations have also started off on a great note. While he couldn’t make it big in the warm-up game against New Zealand, he delivered against Bangladesh. In the company of KL Rahul, he looked almost invincible and played one of his finest innings.

Although this was not an official game, Dhoni has achieved several personal milestones with this ton. This is one of his fastest centuries in the India colours and the first one while playing overseas. He showed great intent right throughout his knock and scored at a fair strike rate. He didn’t look to hang around for long periods of time and brought out timely big shots.

The wicketkeeper-batsman scored 113 runs off 78 balls in an innings that included 8 fours and 7 sixes. He took just 73 balls to get to his hundred and also was great towards the end of the innings. He provided the team with the much-needed impetus which helped propel them past the 350-run mark which is usually a huge psychological advantage. Apart from all this, MS Dhoni was involved in an extremely funny incident as well.

Passing on the experience to the oppositions as well

Part-time spinner Sabbir Rahman was tasked to bowl the 40th over of the Indian innings. MS Dhoni, who was on strike, observed some irregularities in the field. One of the fielders, who was supposed to stand in the short squarish fine-leg region was out of his position. The former Indian skipper was quick to point this mistake out and tried assisting the bowler. Sabbir was clearly embarrassed after this incident and asked the fielder to move to his actual position. MSD and KL Rahul, as well as the umpire, shared a good laugh after this.
