The Indian national cricket team is a popular traveller. Wherever the Indian players go, they see a heavy following. A tournament of the magnitude of the World Cup makes their popularity even more obvious. The Men in Blue are currently touring England and Wales for the 12th edition of the World Cup and the fans are ecstatic to see their favourite team and the heroes making it to the semi-finals.

India are currently in the second spot in the table with 11 points and take on Sri Lanka in their final league game at Headingley on Saturday. One of the members of the Indian team who is perhaps more popular than the rest is captain Virat Kohli. The 30-year-old batsman though hasn’t found a hundred yet in the tournament but scored five half-centuries in a row, boosting his team’s batting in some key games.

The man has been left behind by his deputy Rohit Sharma who has picked as many as four centuries in the tournament so far but when it comes to the popularity chart, the Indian skipper is second to none. Kohli, who was recently found playing football with England football star Harry Kane, also posted on Twitter a picture of himself embracing two kids – a boy and girl.

Kohli happy to inspire future generation

He captioned the post with the words: “Smiles all around. Being able to inspire the future generation is a blessing” with a couple of smiling emojis. The Indian captain has been a content man in this World Cup with six wins and one loss under his belt. The fans aren’t complaining much about apart from the game against England that India lost by 31 runs.

Kohli stole the limelight after the match against Bangladesh at Edgbaston last Tuesday when he met and took the blessings from the 87-year-old cricket buff, Charulata Patel. The elderly woman had arrived at the venue to cheer India, something he has been doing since 1975, and became an instant sensation. Kohli and also Rohit met her separately and the former also tweeted about the incident saying age was just a number.
