World Cup Match 14 Review : England v Scotland:
Scotland won the toss in a neighbours match against England and put them into bat. It turned out to be very wrong decision as Moeen Ai and Ian Bell started punishing the Scottish bowlers from ball one itself. England had 172 on board in 30 overs when Ian Bell was dismissed by Berrington for 54 runs. England lost Joe Root and Gary Ballance early for 1 and 10 respectively. Before them, Moeen Ali was out for a brilliant 128 runs of 107 balls to Majid Haq.
England who was on course for 330 or so were restricted for just 303 thanks to some good bowling by Josh Davey who took 4/68 in his 10 overs. Eoin Morgan (47) and Jos Buttler (24) provided some last minute big hitting to the English innings.
Scotland had a very tough task ahead chasing 304 in front of a bowling attack comprising of Stuart Board, James Anderson, Steven Finn and Moeen Ali. They lost early wickets of Calum MacLoed (4), Freddie Coleman (7), but Kyle Coetzer (71) stood their bravely facing the English attack. He didn’t get much support from his peers though. Captain Peter Mommsen (26) and keeper Matthew Cross (23) tried to lend some support to the crumbling Scotland innings, but failed in front of a high quality bowling display from England. Steven Finn who gave away 49 runs in his 2 overs against New Zealand, took 3/26 in this match. Anderson, Woakes and Ali each took 2 wickets and contributed to Scotland’s defeat.
England can now breathe a sigh of relief now that they have won a match in this tournament. Moeen Ali was given the Man of the match award for his 128.
