The former Pakistani Cricketer and the fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar praised the former Pakistan captain Younis Khan by saying that the veteran cricketer should be renamed as ‘Unique Khan’ for his selflessness nature and his honesty towards the country. Recently, many cricketers paid a tribute to this legendary batsman after the champion batsman announced that the three-match Test series against West Indies will be his farewell. The series starts from tomorrow with the opening test scheduled to be played at the Sabina Park in Antigua.

Younis Khan made his debut in the year 2000 and rendered a great service to the Pakistan cricket team for more than 17 years. In his 115 Test matches, he scored 9977 runs with an average of 53.06 which includes one triple century and five double centuries.

He is just 23 runs away from reaching the elusive 10000 runs mark in the longest format and he’ll be the first Pakistan player to reach this milestone. He also played 265 ODI internationals in which he had scored 7249 runs with 7 centuries and 48 half-centuries. Under his captaincy, Pakistan won the 2009 T20 World Cup for the first time.

The world’s fastest bowler Akhtar said, “To me Younis should be renamed ‘Unique’ Khan for his selflessness and honesty towards Pakistan cricket and the team”, Akhtar was quoted as saying by Business Recorder. He also said that his retirement should not be an end. “Younis Khan’s retirement should not be seen as ‘The End’ but a start. Let’s give him a role in the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) and benefit from the treasure of his experience. Younis Khan was the broadest bat to play for Pakistan, a bat that didn’t have the edges. Let’s retire jersey no 75 as a respect to him”.

England bowler Monty Panesar recently congratulated Younis for his tremendous performance and also praised his great humanity.

Shahid Afridi on his part called Younis as one of the greatest players in the world and also said that he’ll always remember their memorable moments especially during the 2009 T20 World cup. Even, Azar Ali and Wasim Akram also paid a tribute to him. Pakistan will miss his service for sure and definitely, it will be very tough to fill his position in the Pakistan cricket team.
