Wriddhiman Saha not worried about the competition from Rishabh Pant

2018 hasn’t been a fruitful year for Wriddhiman Saha. The regular Test wicket-keeper for India has had an array of injuries this year that kept him away from action for a long time. Saha first picked up a hamstring injury during the South Africa tour during the start of the year. Then, while playing the IPL for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, he sustained a thumb injury.

This has forced him out of quite a few games in the season. Just as he was looking to get back on track, a major shoulder injury was revealed that has forced him out of action for a long while. The 33-year-old then underwent a surgery and is working hard since then to stage a comeback. As a part of his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, he is putting in all the hard steps to make it back into the Indian team.

During Wriddhiman Saha’s absence, the selectors tried quite a few keepers. Parthiv Patel and Dinesh Karthik were given a go. However, it seems to be Rishabh Pant who has sealed the position with his batting heroics. The 20-year-old, although not the safest behind the stumps, is currently working hard on his keeping. The road for a comeback, with Pant doing well, seems to be a difficult one for Saha.

Selection isn’t in my hands, says Wriddhiman Saha

However, Wriddhiman Saha isn’t much concerned about the competition. While speaking to Sportstar, he said that the selection wasn’t in his hands. He further added that whoever does well will get their chances.

“I haven’t been able to watch all the games to be honest. But I have watched Rishabh. He played Test cricket the way he plays T20. This is his style and he has been successful this way. I never think who is playing in my place. I will do my job, and selection isn’t in my hands. If I do well, I will get a chance. Rishabh, Dinesh (Karthik) or Parthiv (Patel), whoever plays, they all will try to do their best, like I do,” the specialist wicket-keeper said to Sportstar.
