One of the finest wicketkeepers in the country, despite his talent Wriddhiman Saha had managed sporadic chances in the national team. Some might cite the reason being MS Dhoni’s presence at the helm which limited Saha’s opportunities. It’s been only after Dhoni’s retirement from Test cricket, that the Bengal player could find a consolidated spot in the squad. In an interview, Saha talked about his predecessor’s influence, but more importantly how he never takes his place for granted.

In an interview, Saha talked about his predecessor’s influence, but more importantly how he never takes his place for granted. Saha disclosed that during his stint with Chennai Super Kings, he was a keen observer of Dhoni’s methods. He revealed how the former skipper used to keep his cool and spoke to everyone. The duo even discussed on how different his keeping was with respect to others and Dhoni always used to provide him with positive feedbacks.

He also observed that MSD himself is the best man to decide when he wants to call it a day on his international career. “It’s an individual choice. It’s also about how much that particular player is contributing. There are ups and downs in everyone’s performance. It isn’t as if you play 10 matches, you have to deliver in all 10,” Saha told HT in an exclusive interview.

Sri Lanka tour

The Indian team will set out on the tour of Sri Lanka later this month. The Men in Blue will play three Tests, five one-day internationals, and a solitary T20I. The first Test is scheduled to start on July 26 at the Galle International Stadium. The first ODI will begin on August 20.

Led by skipper Kohli and new coach Ravi Shastri at the helm, India will aim to get back the indomitable form against their sub continental neighbours. Zaheer Khan will tag along as the bowling consultant, while Rahul Dravid will be India’s batting consultant for overseas Test series.

Sri Lanka is also speculated to travel to India later this year. The tour schedule is yet to be finalised but is most likely to be organised after Sri Lanka’s tour of UAE where they will play Pakistan, from October 17.
