The New Zealand cricket team experienced their greatest moment in Test cricket history, as they were crowned as the champions of the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC). The Kane Williamson-led outfit beat India by 8 wickets at Southampton, with the match ending on the reserve day.
And, with this sensational victory, the New Zealand side has also obtained massive prize money as well. The Kiwis became richer by a whopping $1.6 Million (INR 11.71 Crores) after their victory over India in the summit clash of the World Test Championship (WTC). Apart from the prize money, New Zealand are also the proud owners of the Test mace as well. The Black Caps are also the No.1 ranked side in the world.
On the other hand, the Indian side, led by Virat Kohli will take home an amount of $800,000 (INR 5.8 Crores) as they finished as the runners-up of the World Test Championship (WTC). Even though India had a stellar run throughout the tournament, they stumbled in the final hurdle.
New Zealand produces a complete performance to outclass India in WTC Final
The New Zealand side produced an excellent all-round performance to outclass India on the biggest stage in Test cricket. The Kiwis bowled India out for a total of 217 in the first innings, with Kyle Jamieson scalping a five-wicket haul. Devon Conway and Kane Williamson stood up with the willow for the Kiwis and scored 54 and 49 respectively in the first innings as New Zealand posted 249 on the board.
In the second innings too, India produced a poor performance with the bat. The Virat Kohli-led side was bowled out for a paltry total of just 170 in their second innings, and this time it was Tim Southee who shone with the ball, scalping 4 wickets.
New Zealand faced absolutely no discomfort in the second innings and chased down the target of 139 set by the Indians with ease. In the second innings, while batting maestro Kane Williamson scored a fluent 52*, veteran batsman Ross Taylor chipped in with 47*.
And, for his scintillating performance with the ball that flummoxed Virat Kohli and his men, Kyle Jamieson walked away with the Player of the Match award in the WTC Final.
