WTC Final: Michael Bevan explains three reasons behind India’s loss to New Zealand

India suffered a heartbreaking loss against New Zealand in the final of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship. India’s defeat in the showpiece event has resulted in many cricket pundits and fans questioning the team management and the players.

The cricket analysts have also been carrying out a detailed analysis on the reason behind India’s defeat by eight wickets in the WTC final. The new addition to the list is former Australian batsman Michael Bevan who shared a post on his official Instagram handle revealing three reasons behind India’s poor performance.

Bevan believes that one of the prime reasons behind India’s poor performance was their under preparation. India last played a Test match during March 2021 when they locked horns in the four-match Test series with England. Also, unlike the Kiwis, the Asian nation didn’t receive any time to get accustomed to the English playing conditions and the pitches.

India could only draw or lose putting extra pressure on their batsmen: Michael Bevan 

Just before the WTC final, New Zealand were up against England in the two-match Test series that helped them in getting prepared for the summit clash. Speaking about the second reason behind India’s loss, the former Australian cricketer said that the England playing conditions were better suited for the New Zealand bowlers.

England is known for producing pitches that offer more swing and pace. Thus, the New Zealand seam attack comprising Kyle Jamieson, Trent Boult, and Tim Southee received much more help from the surface. Further, Bevan added that the rain also hampered India’s chances.

Going into the last day of the Test match, India had two options in front of them. They could either play for a draw or for a win. The Australian veteran believes that the same put extra pressure on the Indian batting line-up and they failed to deliver their best performance

“Preparation; India were short of match practice in English conditions. 2. Conditions; suited NZ swing bowlers more than the India bowlers. 3. Situation; heading into the last day India could only draw or lose putting extra pressure on their batsmen,” Bevan wrote on his Instagram handle.
