India is fighting out for glory against New Zealand in the World Test Championship at Southampton, Ageas Bowl. As the game has moved into the reserve day, it will be a thing to see which team will have the honour on its side. Apart from the cricketing action on the field, one more thing became a talking among netizens when Virat Kohli walked up to bat on reserve day of the high-profile clash.

Kohli shook hands with New Zealand’s wicketkeeper BJ Watling, who is playing his last match. It was only last month that Watling decided to bid farewell to all formats of cricket. Before Kohli’s innings kicked off, he made sure to shook hands with Watling and probably congratulated the 35-year-old for his illustrious career with Kiwis.

Watling has been one of the pillars of the Kane Williamson-led New Zealand team. He has scored 3773 runs in 73 Tests he has played so far, which include eight tons as well. He has 573 runs under his belt in 28 ODIs he played for the Blackcaps. It was reported that Watling would like to spend time with his family post-retirement but is eyeing coaching as a long-term career plan.

BJ Watling will be eyeing to enjoy the success of WTC Final

“It’s something I’m looking at. The next six months or so I’ll just kind of wing it at this stage and I’ll start to look into what options I have after the game.”

“It’s the right time. It’s been a huge honour to represent New Zealand and in particular, wear the Test baggy. Test cricket really is the pinnacle of the game and I’ve loved every minute of being out there in the whites with the boys,” Watling had said earlier as quoted by New Zealand Cricket.

As India and New Zealand are currently battling it out for the top glory, it will be a thing to see whether Watling will be able to enjoy the success of winning the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship with the New Zealand team.
