'Ye Pathan k hath hai thakur' - Rashid Khan's cheeky tweet on Yusuf Pathan's stunning catch is trending

One of the big hitters that Indian cricket has produced, Yusuf Pathan hasn’t played for the national side since 2012. The soon-to-37-year-old Baroda cricketer gave a glimpse of his flexibility on the field on Friday when he took a stunning one-handed catch in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy game in Visakhapatnam against Goa.

The match didn’t go Baroda’s way as Goa won the Group A fixture by four wickets but Yusuf’s fielding caught a lot of attention, including that of international cricketer Rashid Khan. Yusuf Pathan’s brother Irfan, another cricketer who has played for India, shared the video of the flying catch that Yusuf took at an extra cover region to dismiss Goa captain Darshan Misal off the bowling of left-arm medium-pacer Rishi Arothe in the penultimate over to keep his team interested in the game.

Goa required 150 to win and when Misal exited, they required seven runs off eight balls. They didn’t have any problem in pocketing the match in the second-last ball of the game. While Swapnil Singh scored a 44-ball 50 for Baroda, Suyash Prabhudesai scored an unbeaten 60 in 49 balls to nullify that.

Yusuf, however, had a forgettable day with the bat as he fell for a two-ball duck in the bowling of left-arm orthodox bowler Amulya Pendrekar. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Baroda posted a total of 149 for 9 in 20 overs.

Rashid Khan, who captains Afghanistan now, came up with hilarious response to Yusuf’s act in his tweet, saying it was an “absolute stunner”. He then said “Ye Pathan k hath hain thakur” (this is the hand of Pathan, Thakur), making a reference to the famous dialogue from the Hindi blockbuster ‘Sholay’.

Irfan Pathan too congratulated his elder brother ‘lala’ for the brilliant effort saying it was the result of all the hard work he had put in ahead of the season. His tweet read, “Is it a bird ? No this is @yusuf_pathan. Great catch today lala.All ur hard work in pre season is paying off #hardwork @BCCI @StarSportsIndia”

In other matches, Andhra beat Bihar by 10 wickets while Karnataka thumped Uttarakhand by nine wickets.
