Former Pakistan fast-bowler Mohammad Amir has thrown his support behind Sarfaraz Ahmed after the latter hit back at Mohammad Hafeez over the ongoing debate on who is the number 1 wicketkeeper-batsman in the country. It all started when Hafeez took to Twitter to praise Mohammad Rizwan and took a sly dig at the critics.

Hafeez’s tweet came after Rizwan’s stunning century in the first T20I against South Africa. The wicketkeeper-batsman played an unbeaten knock of 104 to help Pakistan beat the Proteas by three runs in a thrilling match. Riding on Rizwan’s knock that was studded with six fours and seven sixes, the hosts scored 169 for 6. In reply, South Africa ended their innings on 166 for 6.

Away from the field, there was action going on Twitter too. Soon after Rizwan hit his first T20 century, Hafeez took to Twitter to congratulate him and take a dig at the critics. His tweet also seemed like an indirect dig at Sarfaraz. Later, Sarfaraz also decided to join in the debate by hitting back at Hafeez for his tweet.

The former Pakistan skipper told Hafeez that every wicketkeeper who has represented the country has been the number one. He also said that he and others would continue to support Rizwan and wished that the latter continues to perform in the same manner for Pakistan. Sarfaraz also urged Hafeez to show positive attitude.

Replying to the former Pakistan skipper’s tweet for Hafeez, Amir highlighted Sarfaraz’s contribution to Pakistan cricket.

Amir started by telling Sarfaraz that he is also a number one wicketkeeper before pointing out that Pakistan remained the number one team in T2oIs for two years and won the Champions Trophy under his captaincy.
