Social media is flooded with wishes for the all-rounder Irfan Pathan after bringing curtains down officially on his illustrious career on Saturday. The match-winner whenever he played for India, Irfan, became emotional while bidding adieu to the game which he loved the most. And this was the moment when not only fans but even his former teammates realised the joy he gave to everyone during his playing days.
The likes of Harbhajan Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, VVS Laxman, Anil Kumble and RP Singh among others thanked Irfan Pathan for his contribution to Indian cricket in a video published by Star Sports. All of them spoke of how humble and hardworking Irfan was in his career and lauded his never give up and keep learning attitude despite achieving so much success.
Most of the former and current Indian cricketers took to Twitter to congratulate Irfan Pathan on a successful career. The ones who played alongside him reminisced the memorable days and wished the left-hander all the best for the second innings of his life.
Humble Irfan Pathan responds to messages to Twitter
Yuvraj Singh seems to be one of the closest teammates for Irfan Pathan as the former posted a playing picture with the all-rounder recalling the amazing winning moments for India together. When the then 18-year-old joined the team during the 2003-04 season, Yuvraj was already an established cricketer and senior to him. But the duo enjoyed sharing the dressing room with each other and Irfan highlighted the same.
“You are the kind of senior I hope everyone gets. Who lets you fight and argue with them n thn eventually become friends. I respect and love our relation brother. Thank you for everything,” Irfan’s reply to Yuvraj’s message read. Not only with Yuvi, but Irfan Pathan also had good times with all of his teammates and it is evident with the way the cricketers have shared some amazing moments with him.
The man whose international career came to a screeching halt at the age of 28, deserved much more. Nevertheless, Irfan Pathan contributed a lot to Indian cricket and even after retiring from the game, continues to stay humble just like he has been over all these years.
